Beginning service in 1940 as TEAL, Air New Zealand's first service was a flying boat between Sydney and Auckland. Growth was relatively slow until the 1980s, when upon purchase of Boeing 747s, the airline increased its long haul flights network, becoming one of the larger international airlines in the southern hemisphere.
Passengers travelling on Air New Zealand flights can choose from 3 booking classes on international long haul flights. Pacific class is the cheapest, and offers a 34-inch seat pitch, a varied menu and drinks list featuring many New Zealand specialities, and an entertainment package hat includes a special branded Disney amenity kit for children.
Upgrading to business class means a seat pitch of 50 inches, a luxurious reclining seat, an amenity kit featuring top quality branded products, and an excellent in flight entertainment programme. Baggage allowance is 30KG, and access departure and arrival lounges at many airports is allowed.
First class offers sleeper seats with an 80-inch seat pitch, the chance to watch the latest films on a personal video player, world class cuisine served with top notch wines, and when you fly first class, you receive a generous baggage allowance of 30KG, and gain complimentary access to Air New Zealand and Star Alliance lounges at many airports.
